New Paintings

I took a break from my blue and white obsession to gloriously paint a beautiful sunflower bouquet in artmy red Tuscan urn.  I've had some nice comments on it, fits in with a lot of decor schemes. Available through daily paintworks, my etsy shop, or directly from my website, kimpetersonart.com

I also did my second container garden painting in blue, white and yellow, lemons, sunflowers, blue hydrangeas, so fun but a challenge because it is a larger piece, 28 X 24" , also available to purchase through my etsy shop, daily paintworks, or kimpetersonart.com

I have mentioned before that my absolute favorite blog is The Enchanted Home.  Tina is so incredibly talented at design, entertaining, and all around lifestyle advice.    She shares her life, her loves, her decisions and so much more, she generously features and promotes talent of all sorts, from artists to designers to other bloggers, entertaining, you name it.  One of my favorite things to do every Sunday morning is read her latest "Seven on Sunday" posts.  I have shared my paintings with Tina via Instagram, as some of them have been inspired by her beautiful pieces she carries in her shop.  I was so thrilled this last Sunday to see she had featured my paintings and was so appreciative and feeling unworthy, yet grateful!  I dont have the blogging talent or followers she has, but I want to encourage people who like my style to read her blog and visit her shop!!  here is the link!!

Busy With Comissions

I have been avoiding blogging, I am trying to get my daughter to help me with it, but in the meantime  I have gratefully been busy with comissions, which can be challenging but very rewarding.  I am learning that communication is extremely important, and also having a knack and passion for interior design has helped me too, clients need help and advice on size, layout, colors, ect.
here are my recent custom paintings.

Sunflowers, lemons, and Blue and White Ginger Jar

Here is my latest painting, I haven't blogged in awhile because I am still not investing the time I need to learning how to do all of this.   I was working on the largest commission I have had, I painted 3 large scale tuscan doors for a client, I will post the photos of those too, but in the meantime I loved working on this horizontal still life with my favorite subjects!!  I am thinking of planting some sunflowers because I buy them so often, I think they would grow well here in sunny San Diego. I have added a shop now button to my facebook page, so you can purchase my work directly from there, as well as my etsy and daily paintworks links here on my page.

Happy Fourth of July!!!

I painted these geraniums in a blue and white vase on a small 6 x 6" linen panel in honor of the Fourth of July.  I needed to be able to get my painting fix in during a busy weekend of family fun.  I love how the small square paintings look in floater frames.   I photographed it in the frame it so my etsy clients can see for reference.  I am starting to connect with other artists through Instagram, Daily Paintworks  and Facebook and it is reassuring and supportive.

SUNFLOWER BOUQUET

I am pleased with my new painting, its larger than I am used to but I love the impact of larger paintings even though they are much more difficult and time consuming.  I study with Nancy Medina.  I have attended her workshops and own her DVDs and I have improved so much with her techniques.  This painting is a very "Nancy" Style painting, but hopefully with my own style that seems to be in a constant state of evolution.  I like taking different classes and workshops and studying different techniques, experimenting, practicing  and bringing a little bit of them into my work, but want my own signature "look".

I am also still struggling with photography, cant get the settings right on my Nikon, I take most of my photos with my Iphone and they are decent but not great resolution.

Back In The Studio

I have been traveling and its nice to be back in the studio.  I have been inspired by
My journey through Rome, Tuscany, and Paris, and look forward to creating paintings from my travels.  In the meantime I had to get back to my still life painting and was inspired as always by my favorite blog, The Enchanted Home.  I was pleased to hear that Tina liked my painting and it cheered her up after the loss of her mother in law last week.  I am so new to all of this social media stuff, but I know I have to do it and it's been fun finding my way, I am especially fond of Instagram, I am meeting new friends and exploring so many beautiful inspiring people, places and things in the world!

Pink Hydrangeas

I found these potted pink hydrangeas this week and was surprised to see them this time of year so I had to buy them and paint them, I did two studies them the final painting, My husband doesn't give out compliments about my paintings unless he really means it, which I love, I don't need his approval but knowing he likes it is an added bonus!! still struggling with photographing my work, it just doesn't do anyone's art true justice no matter how great the photography is.

When Life Gives You Lemons, Paint Them!!!

I have been in a regular routine of setting up fresh flowers and items from around my house and painting them.  I learn so much and my paintings are much better by doing so.  I am blessed to have a lemon tree in my yard, living in San Diego I am fortunate to be able to go pick fresh lemons in the middle of winter!

Kim Peterson Art: Feeling Grateful!

Kim Peterson Art: Feeling Grateful!

Feeling Grateful!

I had a very busy week last week and was extremely happy that I sold 16 paintings in one week!! I also attended a two day workshop over the weekend and loved it, now I am hoping to get some more paintings done this week and applying what I learned at the workshop.  It was an alla prima workshop in La Jolla and the title included the words "loosen up" which I really wanted to work on.  However, my instructor Catherine commented after seeing my website, "You have a definite style now and it is working for you, don't change it!!  Its still so helpful to learn more and more about painting,

Today I shipped out 10 paintings to one sweet client that needed some cheer in her home, here are the paintings all lined up before I box them up and ship them to Orlando Florida!!!

Also here's one of the paintings I did in the workshop!! I have never painted Salsa, avocados and tomatoes before, It was a challenge and all I could think about was eating chips and salsa!!

Its our imperfections that make us pretty

I painted these beautiful multicolored roses this weekend and I don't know why I keep challenging myself with such a difficult flower to paint, I wrote on my instagram and facebook posts that maybe someday I will master them, but in the meantime it is our differences that make us pretty, the imperfections in art and life are truth.  Beauty is truth.  Im glad I don't have many readers yet, as both my blogging and painting are very imperfect!!

Sunday Sunflowers

I was happy to get back to painting sunflowers today.  They are one of my favorite flowers, so cheerful, colorful and happy! I like to paint them in layers, letting the transparent layers show through and let them stay pretty loose rather than paint them meticulously, I don't have the patience to paint every petal and I tend to overwork my paintings.  I am trying to learn to give myself a time limit and let it go.  I love the combination of the yellow flowers with the blue and white vase.

Feeling French Country!!!

I haven't been doing well at setting up my blog layout, but I am happy with my latest painting, and wanted to share it here! I painted these yellow roses in my new little French country style pitcher, I love all of these colors together, before my blue and white phase with my decorating I was very into yellow, my paintings were very reflective of that.  My daughter Christina would tell me I needed to use more blue in my paintings, and she was right, now I am definitely in my blue period but it's all about color harmony and balance.

Blue and White Monday!!

I am obsessed with blue and white  and I love painting fresh flowers in my different blue and white vases.  One of my favorite home decor blogs is The Enchanted Home, I get some many decorating ideas and love her posts.  I think she does a Blue and white Monday once in awhile so I thought I would post my latest little blue and white painting.

Happy New Year!!

One of My New Year's resolutions is to work on my marketing and my blog, so bear with me as I learn how to do this!!  I am looking forward to 2015, 2014 was a busy year for me, I moved into a new home that needed a lot of rennovating and work, as well as planning my first daughter's wedding!! it was an exciting, very blessed happy time for our family, but my painting took a backseat.  I'm looking forward to learning and growing as an artist.  I am looking forward to working on my wedding paintings,  I did some awhile ago but I have improved a lot, just in time to do my daughters "wedding suite" for Christmas, she was very touched and even cried when she opened her gift, she wouldn't want me to post the photo of her in her christmas Jammie's and no makeup, but I am happy to share a collage of what I did:
