Welcome 2016!!!

I have been so busy with commissions, and the holidays I haven't posted in awhile, I still struggle with managing the different avenues of marketing my work, but I had a great year last year so I guess it works..  It has been exciting to look back on my journey and see my work improve little by little every day.  The hours and hours in front of the Easel are starting to pay off, I hope to continue improving and learning this year.  I am working on a very large commission that is tedious and arduous, unlike my normal loose style, so in between layers I have been able to do a few fun paintings that are available through the daily paintworks gallery or my etsy shop :

New Paintings

I took a break from my blue and white obsession to gloriously paint a beautiful sunflower bouquet in artmy red Tuscan urn.  I've had some nice comments on it, fits in with a lot of decor schemes. Available through daily paintworks, my etsy shop, or directly from my website, kimpetersonart.com

I also did my second container garden painting in blue, white and yellow, lemons, sunflowers, blue hydrangeas, so fun but a challenge because it is a larger piece, 28 X 24" , also available to purchase through my etsy shop, daily paintworks, or kimpetersonart.com

I have mentioned before that my absolute favorite blog is The Enchanted Home.  Tina is so incredibly talented at design, entertaining, and all around lifestyle advice.    She shares her life, her loves, her decisions and so much more, she generously features and promotes talent of all sorts, from artists to designers to other bloggers, entertaining, you name it.  One of my favorite things to do every Sunday morning is read her latest "Seven on Sunday" posts.  I have shared my paintings with Tina via Instagram, as some of them have been inspired by her beautiful pieces she carries in her shop.  I was so thrilled this last Sunday to see she had featured my paintings and was so appreciative and feeling unworthy, yet grateful!  I dont have the blogging talent or followers she has, but I want to encourage people who like my style to read her blog and visit her shop!!  here is the link!!

and of course another blue and white vase with a little mini bouquet of roses and sunflowers! available through daily paintworks gallery or my etsy shop

Happy Fourth of July!!!

I painted these geraniums in a blue and white vase on a small 6 x 6" linen panel in honor of the Fourth of July.  I needed to be able to get my painting fix in during a busy weekend of family fun.  I love how the small square paintings look in floater frames.   I photographed it in the frame it so my etsy clients can see for reference.  I am starting to connect with other artists through Instagram, Daily Paintworks  and Facebook and it is reassuring and supportive.

SUNFLOWER BOUQUET

I am pleased with my new painting, its larger than I am used to but I love the impact of larger paintings even though they are much more difficult and time consuming.  I study with Nancy Medina.  I have attended her workshops and own her DVDs and I have improved so much with her techniques.  This painting is a very "Nancy" Style painting, but hopefully with my own style that seems to be in a constant state of evolution.  I like taking different classes and workshops and studying different techniques, experimenting, practicing  and bringing a little bit of them into my work, but want my own signature "look".

I am also still struggling with photography, cant get the settings right on my Nikon, I take most of my photos with my Iphone and they are decent but not great resolution.

Sunday Sunflowers

I was happy to get back to painting sunflowers today.  They are one of my favorite flowers, so cheerful, colorful and happy! I like to paint them in layers, letting the transparent layers show through and let them stay pretty loose rather than paint them meticulously, I don't have the patience to paint every petal and I tend to overwork my paintings.  I am trying to learn to give myself a time limit and let it go.  I love the combination of the yellow flowers with the blue and white vase.

Blue and White Monday!!

I am obsessed with blue and white  and I love painting fresh flowers in my different blue and white vases.  One of my favorite home decor blogs is The Enchanted Home, I get some many decorating ideas and love her posts.  I think she does a Blue and white Monday once in awhile so I thought I would post my latest little blue and white painting.
