Happy Fourth of July!!!

I painted these geraniums in a blue and white vase on a small 6 x 6" linen panel in honor of the Fourth of July.  I needed to be able to get my painting fix in during a busy weekend of family fun.  I love how the small square paintings look in floater frames.   I photographed it in the frame it so my etsy clients can see for reference.  I am starting to connect with other artists through Instagram, Daily Paintworks  and Facebook and it is reassuring and supportive.

SUNFLOWER BOUQUET

I am pleased with my new painting, its larger than I am used to but I love the impact of larger paintings even though they are much more difficult and time consuming.  I study with Nancy Medina.  I have attended her workshops and own her DVDs and I have improved so much with her techniques.  This painting is a very "Nancy" Style painting, but hopefully with my own style that seems to be in a constant state of evolution.  I like taking different classes and workshops and studying different techniques, experimenting, practicing  and bringing a little bit of them into my work, but want my own signature "look".

I am also still struggling with photography, cant get the settings right on my Nikon, I take most of my photos with my Iphone and they are decent but not great resolution.

Back In The Studio

I have been traveling and its nice to be back in the studio.  I have been inspired by
My journey through Rome, Tuscany, and Paris, and look forward to creating paintings from my travels.  In the meantime I had to get back to my still life painting and was inspired as always by my favorite blog, The Enchanted Home.  I was pleased to hear that Tina liked my painting and it cheered her up after the loss of her mother in law last week.  I am so new to all of this social media stuff, but I know I have to do it and it's been fun finding my way, I am especially fond of Instagram, I am meeting new friends and exploring so many beautiful inspiring people, places and things in the world!

Its our imperfections that make us pretty

I painted these beautiful multicolored roses this weekend and I don't know why I keep challenging myself with such a difficult flower to paint, I wrote on my instagram and facebook posts that maybe someday I will master them, but in the meantime it is our differences that make us pretty, the imperfections in art and life are truth.  Beauty is truth.  Im glad I don't have many readers yet, as both my blogging and painting are very imperfect!!

Sunday Sunflowers

I was happy to get back to painting sunflowers today.  They are one of my favorite flowers, so cheerful, colorful and happy! I like to paint them in layers, letting the transparent layers show through and let them stay pretty loose rather than paint them meticulously, I don't have the patience to paint every petal and I tend to overwork my paintings.  I am trying to learn to give myself a time limit and let it go.  I love the combination of the yellow flowers with the blue and white vase.
